And now we have Cheney to blame for this massive oil spill.

I swear to God, this guy deserves no less than a medevel style public body quartering. I'd be in the front row!

You might consider that I have more direct information from those close to certain situations than the blogs have or than do you for that matter. I don't speak this harshly lightly. I do speak the truth.

Basically, you just went Glen Beck on us...a show that makes me want to vomit in my mouth. Congratulations on helping lower the bar.

ermmm, I posted a thread on the 2004 regulation (or lack of same)

Doesn't change the fact that these devices have been available for decades and that only 2 countries in the world require them.

Now if the Clinton\Gore admin had put these in place and they were removed during Bush\Cheney then by all means there you have a smoking gun.

Heck, the past year has been completely democratic and yep, no shutoffs.

Do I blame Obama? Heck no.

So, you knew that this topic has been ongoing for decades and yet you still blamed Cheney for it even though no one in the government has done anything about it for decades? Wow, I intimated that you were being dishonest in the OP and you just cheerfully agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Cheney and think he's done a lot of damage but there's no way I'm going to absolve the democrats and lay this one solely at Cheney's feet after 20+ years of inactivity on the topic.

More and more I see there is one political party in the US.

Decades??? 2004 was 6 years ago. Cheney's "committee" considered a safety device, which cost $500,000 was "too much of a burden" for oil companies the bear. How many billions is this disaster going to cost? All over a $500,000 device.

There is also a federal law, (which I intend to research) limiting liability for oil companies in this kind of disaster, to $75 million. That's a drop in the preverbial bucket compared to what this is going to cost the fishing industry, as well as tourism, charter boats, environmental cleanup.

Cheney didn't think a device to prevent the spill such as this was necessary. He claimed the $500,000 cost was too big a burden for the oil companies.

Leaking Oil Well Lacked Safeguard Device - WSJ.com

Before anyone goes any further, these switches have been around for decades and to quote the article....
"U.S. regulators have considered mandating the use of remote-control acoustic switches or other back-up equipment at least since 2000."

So essentially, both the democrats and republicans have had plenty of time to make these switches (which are not certain to have worked in this case) mandatory and haven't.

What a dishonest post. But hey, whatever it takes to make your party look environmentally responsible.
From the WSJ article:

Quote:
The agency, the Interior Department's Minerals Management Service, says it decided the remote device wasn't needed because rigs had other back-up plans to cut off a well.
Yea, that sounds like Dick Cheney's fault.
