I don't have any first hand info on this but I'm willing to bet it was done to prevent any sort of fighting or violence, as indicated in the article. We do need to give our school administrators some credit for knowing what tensions exist within their schools. I'm not saying it's RIGHT, but I bet they could wear those shirts today, or any other day of the year, and NOT be asked to turn them inside out. Apparently they felt there was some "baiting" going on and decided to nip it in the bud. If violence had errupted people would be complaining about that too. In cases like this I will choose to leave it up to the schools unless it's an ongoing issue.
I see nothing to indicate anyone is trying to "ban" the American Flag. It wasn't too long ago that WEARING the flag was considered disrespectful you know....people seem to forget things like that when it suits them.
I have to agree with all you say but I do see some discrimination in this thing and that is against American citizens. The administration of the school did what needed to be done but I wonder how long the boys were in school dressed as they were and just when the administration decided to do something. Somehow I think that it was after Hispanics made noises about having their special day made fun of.
I sympathize with these guys in that I was an administrator for 3 years and gave it up because of things like this. I was asked in 1968 if I would allow a group from SDS to come to the school and speak. My reply was that if they came I would meet them in the street, baseball bat in hand and dare them to walk out of the street. I was supposed to protect the school grounds from things like they would tell kids to do and I didn't own the public street.
Needless to say the students who could reason won out over those who were rebellious. Some good kids on both sides, in fact all good kids. The best way to keep these things from happening is to meet them head on before they happen.
Thank God I am not a left winger. It's clear you FAILED to notice the Confederate Flag is actually PART of AMERICAN history. Now I think I will go burn a mexican flag today.
And the acquistion of our southwestern territories is not part of American history?
My, your revisionist historical spinning would make Glen beck proud.
I can't believe you are actually defending bullying based on what a student is wearing. What's next...picking on the handicapped and fat kids?
These kids were itching for a fight. If a group of kids wore Mexican flags on the anniversary of the Alamo, I'd say the same thing. If a Muslim American group decided to burn American flags and wave Saudi Arabian flags on September 11 they are looking for a fight. You go looking for trouble, you will find it.
My dad, a war vet, still thinks wearing the flag is disrespectful. It's only people who want to see a problem who do.
I agree with your dad about wearing the flag. I also don't think today that we can avoid things like that because it has become the thing to wear things like that. Disrepectful, sure, but some people think it is patriotic.

And yes~ I can remember when it was thought bad to wear the stuff I've seen pics of on this post~ local law enforcement likely to take a few shots as they took you into custody for defiling our flag by wearing it!!
Still feel this kind of clothing is inappropriate by anyone tht really cares about our flag or our country!
When did I say tackiness should be illegal. Read my previous post where I said "it's a free country, you have a right to look like an idiot" Nice strawman response by the way. By the way, I'm the the only one that shares the opinon that dressing up in flag garb from head to toe is cheesey, ask members on here if you don't believe me. Better yet, I'll ask, who thinks this guy looks like an idiot?
Never said you thought it should be illegal - just making a comment.
And who's playing "fill in the blanks"? I never said I dressed up in head to toe flag garb.
It's a Mexican holiday and this is NOT Mexico! This is America!
90% of them don't even know what they're celebrating.
