Ayup. This response from you perfectly illustrates the exact sort of blind partisanship I was referring to.

Ultra-partisan people, who can't see the forest for the trees through their hatorade-goggles, will be the ultimate downfall of this country.

This de-facto two-party system guarantees that the rest of the world is going to leave us in the dust while we are stuck pointing fingers at each other. It's already occurring, right before our eyes. And we still sit here and point fingers, instead of admitting to ourselves that it's our split-personality as a people, which is to blame.

So let's all sit silently and let Rome burn.

There are alternatives.

For instance, you could stop lying about the Democratic Party.

Once you see how well that works you could stop lying about the Republican Party.

But you're right--if you can't bring yourself to take these two simple actions then you would do better to sit silently.

Then we can proceed from there.
I'm not lying about the Democratic party. I'm telling the truth about white racism. The white racism that black Americans don't get to see and don't really know about.

He is a Democrat, what is your point? Are you one of the conservatives who calls him "Sheets" even though he admits he was wrong when he was young? He can't rdeem himself in your view?

Let's see. In the 110th Congress there are:

30 Hispanic members 7 are Republicans.

8 Asian Pacific Americans all of whom are Democrats.

Once again out of all the Democrats serving in the Congress, Byrd is the sole whipping boy of Republicans.

Now that is sad.

After reading thru the comments - let me say this - I am not afraid to say what I don't know. I have never been much on looking back far into history - I'm more of a today guy.

These guys on Congress are not normally mentioned - you get Carver, Parks, Truth, Tubman, etc.

Also been looking into ML King being conservative, Sen. Byrd calling him a troublemaker, and the Dems in government continuously wiretapping him. The wiretapping I knew - but I didn't know the details about how they (FBI) had to discount him.

So excuse me for posting info I was not not previously aware of - but I will probably do it again.

Neither is my namesake Octavius V. Catto who was the Martin Luther King Jr. of his day when he headed civil rights struggles in Philadelphia in the 19th Century. I suspect that the reason that they receive scant mention when compared to the likes of Tubman, Douglas, Du Bois, Carver etc, is do the brevity of their terms of office and the comparatively minimal impact that their terms of office had on the advancement of the "colored people".

Sen. Byrd like many a southern legislator so what is your point? As for King being wiretapped, that was the sole province of J. Edgar Hoover who ran the F.B.I like a private fiefdom throughout his career, the Constitution be damned.

As for King being a "conservative" nothing could be farther from the truth by even the wildest of imaginations.
