Five of the six boats had true civilkians on board. Those boats were boarded peaceably by Israel without incident. The sixth ship however, had a large group of Islamic radicals armed with various weapons including three handguns. As the Israeli naval commando descended the ladder onto the deck he was attacked. One of the commandos was set upon by the mob and thrown to the lower deck. The first shots were fired by the mob and hit the Israelis. The Israelis responded by defending themselves.
Israel has a right to inspect cargo to verify that weapons are not being delivered to the Hamas terrorists. What happened here is that the naval commandos were outfoxed and unprepared for the plotters on that sixth ship. Hamas could not be more pleased with what happened.
Sorry, but Israel told the flotilla to turn back. They didn't listen. The soldiers weren't descending on the ship to kill anyone, UNTIL the "peaceful" passengers attacked them with knives, clubs, bats and iron bars...oh, and stun grenades and firebombs.
Israel has no jurisdiction in international waters. They could tell the boats to turn back until they were blue in the face, but until they enter Israeli waters, they have absolutely no jurisdiction at all.
The Israeli boarding of this boat was a criminal act, no different than that of Somali Pirates. They forced entry onto a foreign boat in international waters. Whatever the people on that boat did or didn't do was completely justified as they were hi jacked and murdered.
And again, as I said in the other thread, Israeli officials have admitted that there was no firearms on board except the ones brought on board by Israeli forces.

As for the weapons, look above, even Israeli officials admit there was none.
Regarding the aid shipment: International red cross are routinely denied access into the gaza strip, as is Medicines sans frontieres (Doctors without borders), so sending aid through those organizations does nothing.
According to Turkish customs, the boat contained no illegal contraband nor weapons, only medical, building and schoolbooks etc.
If that same group were coming towards the "jersey shore" I would hope our coast guard would try to turn them back.

Israel performed the same type of attack on former U.S. Representative Cynthia Mckinney and her humanitarian aid flotilla. They tried to kill them too.

To then attack the boarders with "Clubs, knives, firebombs and pistols" with the intent to harm is not peaceful, and what are trained soldiers going to do...Hit you with a rubber chicken?
They have boarded civilian vessels before without any loss or problem, when people just stop. The soldiers have families and lives as well, so when some one is trying to f'ing kill them...they shot back. They attempted to use non lethal means, till people started trying to kill them.
