I'm really puzzled. I mean... I've lived in Salem. I now live in Portland. I'm not gay or a lesbian but even I know that lesbians from all over the world hold Portland in extremely high regard and many actually move here to be with kin. So... what's up? Do you merely seek validation for what you already know: i.e. Portland smacks Salem about the head and neck when it comes to the sheer variety of things to do and see and that Portland is the acknowledged lesbian capitol city in the U.S. if not the world? It's all true. Don't take my word for it. One visit should convince you (and yours).

Shanghai Tunnels.

Death and brutality with ghosts to prove it.
I think you'd enjoy yourself.

Even though I live here I find it fun sometimes when I am downtown buying my bus pass to go to the TriMet office and browse through the little pamphlets at the visitors area. There are hundreds of them for all over Oregon including many for Portland.

Can you name them? I'm actually curious. I know there are some mixed bars around - the Local Lounge and Crush to name but two. But I don't know of any full-on lesbian bars.

Back in the 90's I had a lesbian friend who moved to Phoenix for the same reason. She was much happier there. But maybe things have changed since then. That was around the time Sassy's on Belmont which used to be a popular lesbian bar became a strip bar. My friend felt that was just one of many indications Portland was not as accomodating to the GLBT crowd but then I guess everyone has their own take on the situation depending upon their experience. And it was a decade ago.

I guess it has been almost a decade since my sis left her husband and went south.

Just for clarification, I have not departed Oregon for my Phoenix location directly. I came here by way NYC, LA, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and many cities in between--to help care for my ailing mother who has since passed. Regardless, when I lived in Oregon--I did not experience Portland like most. I was at OHSU almost exclusively. Than straight back to Salem. I haven't stepped foot in Oregon for over 15 years now.
