LOL, I meant the barista in the Prescott Safeway. I was just up there 2 weeks ago.

I can understand why they'd pronounce it as Pres-COTT. It looks like it should be. I guess I don't 'get' why anyone would get upset about it. Kinda silly, isn't it?

Since this thread started, I have been paying more attention, and have noticed a number of long-time residents do say SCOT. The first syllable is always accented, but they say SCOT.

Not even going to try Mazatzal hahahaha and yes I was taught to say muggy-own although more with an "ON" not "OWN". Nogales is another favorite or what used to drive me crazy was people who said rodeeo. Oh well South Dakota hubby said they had round-ups not rodeos in South Dakota.

yes, I should've made it more of an "on" than "own"....good clarification....

yes, people who pronounce it "ro-DAY-oh", though technically correct, sound so pretentious!

I have friends who live in Show Low who say both.

Perhaps that is because of the association with Roe-Day-Oh Drive in Beverly Hills, where every one is pretentious.
