Rodgers replaced Favre who got hurt (throwing a pick, go figure) against the Cowboys back in 07 I think. He threw for over 200 yards, a score, no picks, and made it look easy against a pretty good Dallas d in just over a half. I remember thinking that night, that we (Packer fans) are in good hands for the post Favre era. Had no idea he would be this good.
Here is an article today in the Kansas City Star that makes an argument that right now, this season that Rodgers is playing better than any QB ever has at any point in time in the NFL.
I think the Packers have developed a system that maximizes the talents of any QB, and Favre was right. In fact, their system enables all of their players in every position to be the best they can be. Rodgers obviously thrives under that system, but it's too early to call him "great." I can't imagine any team beating the Packers this year. They appear to be very dominant.
I'd say Favre was a great QB, and over time, has earned that designation. I don't condemn him for the mishaps that happened at the tail end of his career. But the man was exciting to watch, as was his team during his era.
