I don't think anyone expected that, but for at least one game, they put it all together - special teams - 3/3 on field goals, great punting, defense pressured Allen and came up with a key INT, and offense - even the offensive line played their best game of the year by far - which laid the foundation for an effective rushing and passing attack. And their were some stupid penalties and turnovers from the Pats, but maybe half of what they have been committing lately - those things too are critical.
Mind you, I don't expect every game to be perfect all of a sudden, and they had even more injuries - e.g. DB Marcus Jones out for the season with a shoulder injury now, Trent Brown - they finally got a solid game out of him and he got injured (knee), but if the surviving players can just play more competently, then I'll be happy.

I think its a solid hire. I would have thought Vrabel would be the other choice. Smart of the team to go internally. Gives them the best chance to win. Not only has Mayo been on the staff, but he was also a player in NE. It is going to take a lot of work, but I think he can turn the team around.

Agreed - Mayo had a distinguished career as a player - first round draft pick, All-Pro, voted a team captain many times by his team-mates - so the leadership traits were recognized early. And he's said to be a smart coach and well liked by the players. I am sure there will be a learning curve for him, but I am optimistic. :-)

I think a big part of it is the players like him, good point. Having control of the team is a very overlooked aspect of coaching. If he treats them as employees and not "friends" then he will be successful, even given the fact he is just 32 years old.
