I've been an Andy Reid fan for a long time, but I gotta admit: he seemed to lose his mojo in Philly the last one or two years, and although I didn't catch much of the KC-Indy game, if he was tossing the ball down-field the way everyone's saying he was, it does leave room for some head-scratching. Perhaps he was thinking that he wanted to be more aggressive without his star running back - I guess I could get that. Still, losing a 38-10 lead...some of that has to be on the coaching.
That being said, it's clear that they don't even get into the playoffs without Reid's contributions. I'm not saying that gave him free rein to muck it up with bad 2nd half coaching, but coaching involves a lot of things, not just X's and O's. I think Chip Kelly was probably a better fit for the 2013 (and maybe the 2012) Eagles than Reid, and I think Reid was obviously a good fit for the 2013 Chiefs. Obviously, both still have some room for improvement.
What little of the KC game that I did see left me with the impression that the defensive coaching staff was just listless and caught like a deer in headlights with each Andrew Luck completion. I'm not a mind-reader but it just seemed like they had absolutely no answer. You could begin to see it on the faces of the KC defense too, particularly the secondary. They were just out there. I chalk it up to a young team not used to winning and not having any veteran leaders. Maybe the Chiefs could go out and get a Charles Woodson-like player in the off-season.
What does this have to do with the subject at hand?
And again, you don't keep offenses off the field by running ball for no gain and going three and out which is what would have happened if reid gave the ball to some scrub running back who ran for 5 yards the whole season.
when you run the ball 3 times for no gain you still burn clock...
Andy Reid is really good at pre-game planning and management but very mediocre at during the game management. He's ALWAYS been like that as a head coach. End of story.
