I think we take more pictures because of the age of social media and we air our thoughts more because of the age of anonymity we have with social media but I think if we're more selfish and self-absorbed today, it's because we don't feel much of our own self-worth and value anymore unless we do so. Many of us don't even think we exist if not for social media and other forms of communication.
Personally, I think we're more sensitive, immediate, and graphic today more so than selfish and self-absorbed. I'm thinking of the people in their 20s whose parents come with them to job interviews, the bullies who seem to be upping their tactics, and the kids who are committing suicide because they lack the foresight at times to see that this too shall pass because it's not passing fast enough. Whatever happened to making a vision for your life and then working towards it? "One day I'll move out of this place and be somebody and these people will rue the day they mistreated me!" What happened to that???
We have become a push-button society that wants results as fast as possible. When we don't get those results we whine about it. I'll admit I'm guilty many times of this.

I'm guilty of it as well. I know I need to further learn the value of long term commitments and working more towards a goal as opposed to the "push button" mentality. What I want out of life certainly is not going to come overnight.
Interesting, the quoted part from the article shows the rise in narcissim roughly tracks with the sudden massive increase in male suicides. I wonder is there might be a connection.
Who said I did? Don't ASSume anything. You know what's fair? Minding your own business.
There was nothing offensive in my post. It is that old saying: What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If a person does not think it is necessary to care about anyone else, then they cannot expect it in return...that was all I meant. I think 99% of us can agree on that.

I think humans are no more selfish today than in the past, social media just is an avenue for them to display their self-absorbed narcissism to the world.

I never said it was offensive but it was unnecessary. You assumed otherwise you wouldn't have said it. Mind your own business and don't tell me what to expect and not expect. You're assumptions were wrong. What you said truly goes without saying.
