People tend to forgive their own shortcomings, while holding onto grudges held against others. If you don’t understand how that works in your own life, you might give it some thought.

I'm a loner with little voluntary involvement with other people. In the eyes of most other people I suppose that means I have little opportunity to be 'good' since I rarely run around doing good works or deeds.
Perhaps I'm jaded but I truly believe most people are 'good' only when it benefits them or theirs. When they are in situations that involve others that mean nothing to them, they are for the most part self centered and uncaring about those others.

How does getting paid negate what he did for a living. People need money to survive. As long as he wasn’t scamming people to earn his money than he earned an honest living. Volunteering is not a requirement of being a good person. You don’t know his situation. Maybe they have health issue or family obligations or simply want to relax during their retirement years after working their entire life.

Your comment itself leans you toward being a bad person. No one was asking your option on people’s opinions of themselves.

I don’t apologize for my shortcomings I’m very aware of them and embrace them. I’m a mean and vindictive a-hole for the most part but at least I own it and am aware of it.
