Howdy once again! I searched the threads but couldn't find anything recent. I'm looking for a reference for an electrician to do a 'survey' on my breaker panel. I have a 50A breaker getting warm after 6 hours (wire is fine), about 14F above ambient that runs our BIG pool heat pump. This makes me nervous. Even replaced the breaker but I need an expert to verify yea or nay.

Anyone have any references good or bad? If you don't want to post in a public forum, you can DM me.

Many thanks!

I LOVE Stec Electric in Port Charlotte. They moved to a building close to toledo blade. They were near sonny's. They are great, reliable and been around for years!

I use Englewood Electric for a number of jobs, and they are very helpful, knowledgeable, and perform service work. Ask for Bill Yeager 941-698-9799.

Thank you both for such a quick response!!!!! This is now my go-to place for all questions, good and bad! Hopefully I can repay one day!
Anyway, I called Stec and left a message. Investigating the two, Englewood hasn't pulled a permit since July and the BBB says they are out of business.
Stec has pulled very recent permits and no issues with the BBB.
BH, have you used them recently?
I'll let you all know how it works out. Again, many thanks!

Anything found through the BBB must be taken with a grain of salt. Remember, businesses PAY to be BBB members. Some businesses can't afford to pay the annual fee, but that doesn't necessarily make them a bad business. If it says "out of business", it likely means they discontinued their BBB membership. I have very mixed feelings about BBB membership. It's not "all for" consumers. They make money off memberships.

Thanks Tam, we'll see how Stec works out.
HH, I agree with what you said. I know they (BBB) are in it for themselves just like Angies List (of which I never use). However in the past I've seen records where they are not members. I've even hired businesses with an F rating as non responsive to one complaint. You can't please everyone.....
I had a french drain put in by a co that had a terrible rating. They were awesome! Once I speak to someone I make my decision. Usually (not always) I'm right.
If Englewood showed newer permits pulled, I would have called them also.
I'll give Stec till tonight to call. I know how many contractors are.
Thanks again!

Default Not Able Electric

We have an older property in North Port and have had 2 electricians in. Able Electric and Mr Sparky's. Able Electric came in to replace some light fixtures and install some GFI outlets. We also had problems with some flickering lights. This turned out to be caused by a bad outdated panel which was arcing and causing the flickering. This was also rendering the breakers inneffective-scary stuff. The panel in question is a Zinsco/Sylvania type. If one googles this model, one will find many links describing how unsafe this particular model is.

While Able Electric did a good job installing some light fixtures and outlets, I am pretty upset at them for not taking our flickering lights seriously (they tried to blame it on FPL), and not recognizing the bad panel. The guy from Mr Sparky's immediately saw the bad panel and showed me the pitted bus bar.

The guy from Able Electric seemed very reticent with finding the cause of our flickering lights ("it's gonna take a team etc etc"), and did not show up at a subsequent appointment. Left my Father in Law hanging around all morning. Was ok taking our check the first time however

Maybe too much info in this post-but I would recommend Mr Sparky's (big add in Yellow Pages)

Don't want to hijack this thread but hate to start a new one. Do any of the recommended electricians do work in Sarasota? Thanks
