Funny..I was thinking the same thing. We just bought property in North Port and are building a home. In the near future..I will get a boat and will want to take my 11 year old son out to fish. Growing up, my Dad did not..hence I have limited fishing expertise.

I would like to go out and take lessons..learn tackle...tides...fish identification..etc..etc for the area.

Fishin Franks also has free fishing classes the 2nd wednesday of every month at Luigis. I have never gone, but I have spent alot of time at the store. Great bunck of guys- willing to share what they know. I do a lot of fishing around the harbor- anyone willing to chip in for some gas is welcomed aboard. I have a 22ft Pathfinder. Weekends are with the wife. I usually get a few days during the week to get out- anyone interested let me know.

One more vote for Fishin Franks. Three years ago I came to Florida for the winter and wanted to learn about salt water fishing I'm a fresh water fisherman from Ohio. Someone suggested Fishin Franks so I went and they were great. They took the time to explain the type of fishing gear needed, and they didn't try to sell me a lot of stuff. I think I left the store with enough tackle to get me started for less than $30. Of course I've been back many times since then
