I'm moving with my family to NC soon and need to decide on which city (in the tricity area) to live in. I currently live in Portland, OR and have to option to stay here, but I would like a change. Any information about the different cities such as schools, weather, shopping, lifestyle, people, and how they relate to portland would be very helpful. Thanks!

It would be easier if you would tell us specifically what sorts of things you are looking for, and we can say how each areas rates on that particular criteria. Or, use the Search function of the forum to read past threads, of which there are many. Do you have job prospects here? That will be a major decider. What do you know about the area that makes you want to come here?

Several things would make a difference in where you live. Are you single or a parent? Many communities are good for families, but if you are looking for night-life and bars, you would get a different answer.
Where would you work, or what kinds of businesses would you need to start looking for employment?
my neighbors across the street moved here from portland in the last 2 years. young family, professionals. if you'd like to get in contact with them - cause they loved OR and seem happy here - then send me a message
PDXMom made the relocation from Portland to the Triangle (south Durham) and posts frequently on this board -- might send her a DM if she doesn't see this thread.

PS: it's "The Triangle", not "The Tri-City Area"
I'm looking for how the high schools, shopping, lifestyle, housing and weather compare in the cities in the triangle area and which city you think a teenager would find the most to do it. The triangle area is where my dad will work so I would need to be in that area. I want to move to stay close to my dad and also because I would like to experience a new culture. thank you

Do you prefer urban, suburban or rural life?
I'm going to be a senior in high school and I'm not looking for a job. My main reason for moving is to see the culture so I dont want to be in an area that is just soccer moms and grocery stores. I also play basketball so high school sports teams would be a factor. thank you!
Portland to RTP? You actually want to do that? Hour and half to Manzanita.
Yes I think so, do you think it's a bad idea? and what about Manzanita?
