I am a soon-to-be separated mother of a 7 year old who is currently living with my husband just outside of Carrboro. My soon-to-be ex and I are still good friends, and considering selling our home and renting two different two bedroom apartments in the same complex in Carrboro, as she is currently in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro school district, and as we consider Carrboro our "home". From my browsing, it appears that apartment complexes are hit and miss in the area, with some appearing to have issues with burglaries and drug dealers. Others seem safe enough, but are filled with undergraduates, and we would prefer to live in a community where there are other parents with children for her to play with. Any recommendations for areas that are safe, kid-friendly, and where a two bedroom apartment can be found for $900 a month or less?

I have some friends with kids that live at Fidelity Court. They're condos, but many of them are rentals. I know there are quite a few kids there. Walking distance to Carrboro Elementary and all of downtown Carrboro, incl Farmer's Mkt & Weaver St.

Are you wanting to stay at your current school or would you be redistricted anyway?

Thank you for the tip! Yes, we are trying to stay at MacDougle... There are quite a few apartment communities in this district, but a few looked a little rough on drive through, and others looked full of undergrads. I am looking for a community that is relatively quiet and low on crime...
