When I got home tonight I had a letter from TWC waiting for me. It notified me about my EarthLink Broadband rate increase. I've been with them for nearly 12 years, and it's always been $41.95 per month (except for the first couple of months introductory rate), and will now be $57.99 per month effective on my next billing cycle. Additionally, there will be a $5.99 modem lease fee.

I saw the modem lease fee coming, and was prepared to buy my own anyway, but the 38% increase in monthly rate just hurts.

Over 11 years at $41.95 p.m. and a 38% increase hurts? Wait until Comcast starts executing its post merger strategy.

I'm in no way defending the price increase, but I'm surprised you got by that long without one.

Just switch to TWC for promotional pricing....it's the same service. They all play the promotional pricing games so you have to play along if you want to save some money.

I'm on that promotional program at the moment...was planning to switch back to TWC promotional pricing after the six months are up.

I was cool paying the $41.95 after 6 months but not anymore. I will say the internet providers have us by the nuts. Quite honestly if they charged $75/month I think most of us would pay it, "because we have to". In's a fairly inelastic product. Great business to be in.

I, too, got the letter, after years of paying 41.95. The thing is, I am fairly certain I got a similar letter at least once before, but my rate didn't actually increase. The "earthlink internet" price listed on the Time Warner invoices has been higher than $41.95 for a couple of years, at least. I am probably naive, but hopeful that our rate won't really go up this time either? If it does, I guess it was nice while it lasted. . .
