Hubby and I are coming with the family to explore neighborhoods. We are going to need some activities to occupy down time with our kids 2 & 3 years old. Are there any must sees - parks / museums / aquariums / etc? Anything you might recommend?

Last year when we were there, we were so clueless we kept ending up at the play area in the mall!!!!

Thanks again!

It is a good thing you put the dates, because most people down here don't really celebrate Presidents Day, Columbus Day, etc.

My suggestion for an outing:

The Natural History museum in Raleigh is probably a good choice. Indoors, so you won't have any weather concerns. It is right next door to the State History Museum, which might be interesting to the adults. And if the weather is nice, across the street is the Capitol bldg and across from that is Fayetteville Street, which is worth a walk down.
And just a couple of blocks away is the former Exploris Kids Museum, now called Marbles Kids Museum. On the other side of Moore Sq (a small downtown park) is City Market with its cobblestone streets, some shops, restaurants and bars. Attached to this is Artspace, which is worth a visit (galleries for local artists, most of which work on site).

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definately put these on the list. Are there any local attractions that are must sees in the Cary / Fuquay-Varina / Apex / Wake Forest areas? Those are the areas we are considering moving to, and we would love to see what they have to offer for our children.

Thanks again!!!

There is a place called Jump Zone in Holly Springs (close to Apex, Fuquay area) with lots of inflatables for kids to play on. they have open play on Tues-Fri from 10am-1pm and cost if $7 per child.

That DEFINATELY sounds like something my kids would enjoy!

If it is pleasant enough weather for outside, then you might check out:
1) the Kid's Town park in Apex at Kelly and Olive Chapel Rd behind the school
2) Bond Park/Bond Lake in Cary off High House.

I agree about Bond Park. Pullen Park in Raleigh is a nice choice too, with a carousel and kiddie train. If you are looking for indoor playspaces, there is Jumpin' Beans in Cary (an inflatable space), with an ice skating rink and roller skating rink nearby. There is also a Chuckie Cheese-like place called Bullwinkles in the same area.

Planet Child is great for toddlers Planet Child.

Pullen Park is great, but the train, the carousel, and the boats are closed until March.

If you want a train, and lots of other fun stuff, check out the Museum of Life & Science in Durham.
