Yeah, I could waste some hours away with SignMaker.
Several months ago, I talked with someone at DOT that said it would take a while to get new signs ordered, especially since some signs could just be modified but other signs would have to be completely replaced. He said, "it may even be August". I know deadlines creep, so at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it's still a month or two away. But hopefully soon.

NCDOT started taking down the "Future I-495" signs in Nash County about a week ago, so that sounds about right.
I got bored and don't want to share my road-geekiness with anybody I know IRL.
This may be your view on I-40 West in the next month or two:
Unlikely in the next month or two for that particular sign. That would require a larger sign, and change of the sign structure. With the widening of this stretch of 40 coming soon, the signs will be replaced as part of that project (no sense spending the money now, when they'd have to be removed for the project construction.) A ground mounted sign might be installed in the interim somewhere along that part of 40.
For overheads, I'd expect the only thing to happen would be to replace those with the 295 shield with an overlay for 87, and replace the ground mounted signs.
Nice job on the visuals; you got the order of the routes correct (2 digit interstate, 3 digit interstate, US route.)
Yeah, you're probably right. I was hoping they'd shield the beginning of it, though. Most people just think of this as replacing I-495 with I-87, and don't realize it's overlaying the southeastern part of I-440.
