WONDERFUL!! And the best hot dogs on the planet were from SCOTTY'S!
Yes indeed they were. I ate them it seems almost daily from the time I moved here in 1998 until they closed it up.
Remember when the artist carved the figure of Sir Walter Raleigh in the mall out of a giant tree in the 70's. It was fun to watch the progress.

I loved North Hills Mall. I worked there for awhile in the late eighties/early nineties. Was an assistant manager for Record Bar.
Speaking of mall things, I really miss when Hector's used to be downstairs at Crabtree and was a full-sized restaurant. My mom used to take us there to eat every time we went to Crabtree to shop. Good times, good times.
Speaking of eateries…. I remember going to Brothers Pizza on Hillsborough Street quite often. My parents will tell the story of taking me to Brothers when I was two weeks old and sitting me on the table for "my first pizza." We also frequented the Brothers on Kildaire Farm Rd until they closed their doors.
I had forgotten about that that! Thanks for the reminder. We need a website with all these forgotten things!
Those Facebook groups are a pretty good substitute, and the coolest pics crop up (Poggly, if you're on FB, you should join one of the groups and post that). They are "I Grew Up in Raleigh, NC" and "You know you grew up in Raleigh, when..."

I probably shopped in there all the time. Is that when Jim S. was manager? I managed the Waldenbooks, two doors down, from '92-'94. His wife worked with me at various W'books around the area and I used to take care of their cats. I wonder what happened to him.

Jim was there when I left. I started there in early '88 when Larry D. was the manager. He left to go work at SAS. I quit at the very end of '89, when Jim was the manager. I remember his wife, Julie. She was really sweet.

I think they moved to Virginia? Sounds right.
Jim and Julie split up (amicably) and she eventually moved to Richmond, then Ann Arbor, MI, last I heard. I am trying to track her down, actually. He stayed in the area and actually worked for Waldenbooks for awhile (the freestanding store on Capital Blvd), even after she had moved (last I heard, she is still with the company (Borders), in the home office--though that may not be true anymore with the current state of Borders!). Jim was a great guy, so laid-back.
If you were there in '88-'89, I probably wasn't in there much because I myself was working at the Crabtree and Cameron Village stores and Record Bar was always nearby W'Books. But I grew up going to that North Hills store!
