Here we go, time for first snow thread 2017! How much snow do you think the Raleigh area will get this Saturday, January 7th? Local weather not saying much as usual. Have seen Euro model predicting between 2"-6" so far?

Weather Underground says 80% chance of snow, and predicts 1-3 inches in Cary.

With that, I have it narrowed to two possibilities:
-we will get some amount of snow
-we won't get any snow.

^I'm fairly certain one of the two will pan out...

I'm going to say one inch with the hope that it's more.

Either nothing or at least 6 inches.

Next we can play "how many days will school be closed"

I tend to agree with this. It seems that if it comes it will be a lot but that the likelihood of it coming isn't certain.

Since I am truly hoping for snow, my guess is none.

Hmm. This is *not* the first snow thread.

(I vote for no snow.)

The latest from WRAL-

"There's a lot of uncertainty," Johnson said. "We don't have a lot of confidence in what exactly, if anything, would fall this weekend. We are confident it will be very cold this weekend."

The system that could bring snow is still over the Pacific Ocean off the Oregon coast, he said, so there hasn't been an opportunity to gather much information on it yet. Also, it's unclear where a low-pressure system will develop off the Southeast coast and how it will move, he said.

If the low is farther south, North Carolina might not get any precipitation, Johnson said. If it tracks farther to the west, he said, snow could be limited to the North Carolina mountains, while the Triangle would see only rain.

"A lot of question marks. We'll continue to watch this over the next couple of days," he said.

Back in 2007, the very first snow day my kids enjoyed we woke to bright sunshine and a dry lawn. My youngest peaked suspiciously out the window certain his parents had gotten confused about school being cancelled (we had just moved from Long Island where 6" of accumulation didn't close anything).

It's not how much falls that really matters, it's how much the meteorologists think is going to fall; that's what drives the herd.
