My home state has minimum speed on roads, which I'd love to see in other states.
When you see that it's generally because they've replaced their regular bulbs with HID ones but didn't replace the actual housing that changed the reflectivity of them. It's illegal per DOT regs but impossible to enforce. And yes I agree incredibly distracting.

I drive a newer car with the new type of lights and I get flashed for my low beams fairly often. I must say though that I love having the new lights - they are so much better than my old Honda Odyssey lights!

I can say for certain this isn't true in Raleigh especially since the red light cameras in Raleigh are on NCDOT roads. The yellow time at those intersections is calculated the same way as at every other NCDOT intersection in the state.

I guess LED. They're especially bad on those raised trucks with oversized tires...really annoying!

Peace and West St. has a red light camera. According to the NCDOT map those roads are not maintained by the state.

But the point was not about Raleigh in particular. Red light cameras have gotten a bad reputation by the companies that run them. The companies are not specific to Raleigh. There were more cameras in Cary that I knew of and those have all been removed.

That's true. The vast majority of the rest of them are though.

After driving in England, a couple of notes:

1. No one typically hangs out in the fast lane. They will pass and then return to the middle or slower lane.

2. When at a red light, the light will turn RED/YELLOW just before the light turns green. Almost all of the cars in the UK turn off when they get to a red light. When they take their foot off the brake, the car restarts. The RED/YELLOW warning gives them time to take their foot off the brake, and get ready to go. I believe the US could benefit from this arrangement, as well.

3. I'm on the fence regarding traffic circles. They keep things moving, but can be a bit confusing if you aren't used to them.

Probably has to do with the fact that they drive manual cars over there and need the advance warning.

I talked with some coworkers about this and said that the advance warning wouldn't matter since most people would need to look up from their phones to notice. I know someone who went to Cambodia (I think?) and they have countdown counters at their lights so people know when the light is going to turn red - there's actually still a lot of red light running because people then try and beat the light if they know it's about to turn red.

I assume you mean deputies, not sheriffs.

Here is some actual data regarding police salaries in NC:
