I guess a roundabout made out of traffic barrels will suffice.
They did this in Wilmington during the Hurricane Florence when power was out at several major intersections and it was pretty successful (but this one is also definitely temporary haha)
The roundabout is supposed to be in place for 60-90 days while they get a signal installed, but who knows whether coronavirus has affected the timeline.
Why was a signal not part of the plans for either of the extensions to begin with? They've only been planning and building it for years. Who in their right mind thought that intersection would ever work once the parkway was finished?

It was part of the plan. They got the construction on this section done faster than expected other than the Signal and decided to do this and open the road rather than make everyone wait.
Faster than expected? NCDOT's section between Aviation and Evans was supposed to be open in November. People in this thread were asking in January when it would open. It didn't open until April. The signals were up at Aviation months ago before the road was finished. The town's section has been open since August. I'm assuming the town is responsible for signalizing this intersection and not the state. It's not like it came as a surprise.
It was done in two separate sections. The town section, from Chapel Hill Rd to Perimeter Park or thereabouts, was way way behind, they had to kick the original contractor off the job and go to their bonding company to finish it. It’s possible that it was due to that delay then. It’s also totally possible someone didn’t realize it would be needed until it was too late, but the way they were explaining it when they did the temporary roundabout was acting as if it was going to allow the road to open sooner than otherwise. I’ll try to ask someone.
LOL that it’s still all just traffic cones all this time later. Not that big a deal with most companies out there still WFH, I guess.
As for the Cary section, last update to the project page said there is no current funding. In the face of Covid, expect this is even less likely anytime soon. https://www.townofcary.org/projects-...sibility-study
They have to finish the bridge project of Morrisville-Carpenter road first. But someone has made a barrier for construction purpose beyond my backyard on the farm lately. They are planning!
