I'm thinking the A321XLR is the destiny of RDU-LHR as well, although it depends on how AA configures the cabins. Maybe there will be enough front-cabin demand RDU-LHR to support a 788, but those aircraft will be in high demand to push out the fuel-hungry 772s. The economics of the A321XLR look irresistible.

Left to España the other day. All three flights on AA to MAD were oversold for about a week straight. The neighboring ATH, LHR and BCN flights were also oversold/at capacity.

The return flights are light on bookings (~40-60% full) flight

Does anyone think that shopping at "Duty Free" stores makes sense? I have not spent any significant time examining the goods in them, simply assuming that any item for sale in an airport has to be more than I would find outside. Or just as likely, whatever savings you achieve by escaping host country taxes, is eaten up by the increased price of the product.

I have read that some travelers simply view the duty free store as merely a better way to use up remaining local currency, versus the wretched exchange rates offered in an airport to get dollars again... I usually just hold onto foreign currency, figuring that someday I will be back anyway to spend it outside the airport.

I think the answer is, It Depends.

I've seen the same goods (scotch) at different prices in different locations, and in some cases, no benefit over buying outside, but not always. In other cases they had goods we couldn't get easily or at all when living overseas so they were helpful for some things.

But it's been a while since I availed myself of this.

I wonder if duty free liquor is cheaper or there are better choices than buying at ABC.
