IMO Cary is by far the easiest place to get around in the Triangle, and the most convenient - especially the newer parts. They are really good about planning ahead and responding to traffic issues, and utilize technology in a way that I don't think other towns/cities in the area do.
Traffic is just much worse in Wake County. Way worse than in Chapel Hill.
Not sure I can agree with this in general. At least not for the majority of the year. June-mid-August and December...sure. Most of the year though. Nah. I used to have to traverse both sides of Estes daily. No more OR less of a PITA than any of the main thoroughfares through Cary/Apex area. 15-501/Fordham translates pretty equally to 55/West Williams St too.
But I do agree that if OP's only hesitation to looking in CH is due to perceived lack of access to shopping; that is a misguided perception.
Estes is a breeze since they put in the roundabout at N Greensboro.
Traffic in Wake County is just much more voluminous than traffic in Orange Co, just because of population. I don't know why people complain about traffic in CH. It's nothing compared to I-40 in Wake Co even at its worst.

Though it's definitely seasonal--when the university students are in town, everything is more crowded (although OP probably wouldn't be driving right down Franklin St all that often).
I, too, wonder what shopping is near Cary that's not near enough to CH; it could be a case of misinformation. OP hasn't been back to say.

All depends on where the OP is coming from. Traffic throughout the Triangle is very short lived and mostly a breeze IMO.
