The worst place for produce is Sprouts. Every time we buy produce from there it goes bad within a day or two. The avocados are always brown inside whether they are soft, hard or just right.
Strangely the avocados I have sent my husband out to get at Food Lion (since it is closer) have always been perfect. Sams Club also has perfect avocados. Sams also has really good tomatoes (when I don't have them fresh from my garden) and also good apples. Prices are great as well!

I haven't had any problems with fresh veggies from Sprouts (Durham). I get my perfect avocados from Compare Foods. The latin grocery stores know good avocados!

I'm not sure what is up with the Raleigh location but most of the people I know that have tried their produce have had the same issues that I have had. Probably the only item that has been better there is the brussels sprouts. So I still buy those there.
I may have to check out some of the latin grocers around me because I LOVE avocados. I have wasted so much money on BAD avocados here in NC
Oh no! Don't do that pierre! I buy avocados that are hard and let them ripen on the counter for a few days before using. They are usually great that way. I read that avocados don't ripen on the tree, fwiw. Farmers can actually store Haas avocados on the tree for 8 months. http://ceventura.ucanr.edu/Com_Ag/Su...ick_avocados_/
Same. If I need one ripen faster than the others, I throw it in a paper bag together with a banana. It ripens super quick. This way I do not end up with 4 avocados that need to be eaten at the same time.
When I need plantains or fresh tortillas, I usually go to La Superior. I tried their avocados once of twice, but they are not the same as Hass ones. They are slightly watery. Not a biggie if you are just going to mush them and make a bowl of guac, but if you are just eating it as is, or topping something with it, it is easy to tell that the taste is slightly different (this is in response to someone who said they buy theirs at Compare Foods - I bet they are Mexican avocados too).
One personal observation is that I really do not like Harris Teeter produce - for both prices and quality.
I agree- before Wegmans I went to the North Hills and Northridge HTs, and multiple times I ended up with onions that seemed okay on the outside but were rotting on the inside, same with tomatoes. They actually had moldy cherry tomatoes and berries a few different times too. This applies to both of those stores. AND expensive at that.

Have you tried International Foods on Atlantic Ave @ New Hope Church Rd? It's essentially a Latino grocery store, and their avocados are perfect. Bonus: Chilango is in the same strip plaza and it has some of the best tacos in the city
Yum! My favorite and what I usually make on Tuesday for our Wed. hike.
I may never eat tuna salad again. What took me so long to discover chick peas?
