These types of things haven't just started in the past few months. We're just finally learning just how frequently it happens.
That's for sure.
To even have a thought that you could bring a gun like that to a basketball game is really something else. And WCPSS is very proud he's not a Wake County student. Kid isn't even 18 years old, it's unreal.
It's really not. And for the record I'm not against gun control. Anything to help protect kids is good with me, but that's not going to fix everything. Not even close.

It won't fix everything, but your "not even close" comment is off. There are so many guns in this country that nobody cares/ is responsible about them. Parents have them all over the place, kids get a hold of them and bring them to school. America is too far gone for "gun control." Gun control is in quotes because you can limit AR-15s, but what about all the handguns?
If you can't solve the problem of stupidity (which we have not in this country), you get rid of guns.

The same can be said about drugs. They’re illegal and regulated and all over schools, but the difference is it doesn’t pose risk to your or my kids unless they make bad decisions, which ideally you or I can prevent. We have no control over another kid bringing a weapon to school and shooting.
You can’t stop stupidity but you can punish the children and parents appropriately so that they are less likely to consider doing it again. A one year suspension for the child doesn’t cut it.
What's the alternative? They've already proven to be a threat to other people's children, so they shouldn't be sent back.
The problem and solution are far deeper, but one thing is for sure they shouldn't be allowed back into school. Maybe that will provide some incentive for parents/guardians to try and drive the point home.
The problem is, that 14 year old that is taken out of school is going to be living somewhere for like 60 more years. Unless you’re going to stop complaining about crime, educating all kids so they have good outcomes should be a priority.
