I am coming to the triangle to look for housing in about two weeks - most of the options are in southwest durham, 2-3 in cary and one in northern raleigh. What we best the best hotel options - near southpoint mall or else where. Any recomendation for a nice, clean but inexpensive place - no need for many amentieis as time will be used to get to know the area.

My folks have stayed at La Quinta on 15-501 several times for around $55/night. Close proximity to downtown durham and Chapel Hill, and about 10 min from Southpoint.

NOT Homestead or Best Western. I have heard La Quinta and Candlewood are respectable but can't say personally. Do a search on the forum, there were whole threads about this.

When we flew in to check out the area, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express- RTP (Durham). It's something like $75 per night and was very convenient to hop on I-40 and check out Raleigh, Durham, Cary, etc. The room was fine. We also stayed at Wingate (by Wyndham hotels) on Page Rd., Durham. Also very convenient and clean, but slightly more expensive.

Anything near the airport - there are a bunch of corporate-traveler style hotels off of Miami/Page just Southwest of RDU (Wyngate, Wyndham, Comfort Suites, Hilton, etc etc etc)

you should try the new Hilton Garden Inn at Southpoint - the rates are from $82 a night and location is great for I-40 access and Southpoint mall

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn a few times before we bought our house. Good location. Free hot breakfast.

Hilton Garden inn. Puts you right near I-40 and the Southpoint Mall. Quick access to things in Durham (Derm).

Those recommending Hilton must have missed "inexpensive" requirement in the OP.
