Okay, we've got the cold weather....now we need the precipitation so we can get some snow
Yep, bring it on, I'm ready. We always have a blast in our neighborhood. I l love getting out there with the kids. Although, the last time we had snow we almost had a kid slide into the pond, I caught him in time.
My neighbor friends who are from Long Island and always talking about how the cold weather here isn't really cold... well, I can never get them out of the house when it snows, they say it's too cold! Funny eh?!
unrelenting might fit. It may stay below freezing here in the Raleigh area for more than 48 hours in a row, Lows in the low teens and a 20+ mph wind. It is not going to warm up at least for 10 to 14 days. There are indications it could be one of the coldest months ever down here since records were kept.
Being the one that always tries to find the silver lining in any situation...the cold will kill unwanted insects like fleas and mosquitoes plus it feels like it just cleans the air!
Now don't get me wrong...even being hot natured, I WILL be complaining after a few days! I don't wear coats and my last client from NY was bothered by the fact that I didn't have gloves so she bought me a pair (who says New Yorkers aren't wonderful people?!!).
I do think 3 to 5 days of below freezing temperatures will be enough but you can't control Mother Nature!
The previous time the cold lasted this long in Raleigh was in Jan 77.
Well, I remember January 1977--the only time in my lifetime that ponds and lakes here froze over enough for people to walk on. I hope we don't get THAT again.

That IS a good point-- a long, hard freeze will kill the fleas etc and next summer will be more pest-free than last summer, let's hope!

Ignoring the fact that the worst places in the US for insects are Maine, Minnesota and Alaska...no hard freezes there, right?

Maine, Minnesota and Alaska are known for their mosquitoes, not their "insects." Those states do not have fleas-- precisely because of the long-lasting, sub-freezing temperatures.
IT it did not get above freezing today in the Triangle. Meteorologists are looking at a potential snowstorm toward next weekend.
