The comments in one of the threads below about people checking out prospective dates via a background search sort of inspired this one.
I posted my experience about getting involved with an Internet con artist who defrauded people of more than $40,000 by selling a nonexistent product. By the time I found this out, we were living together, he'd already "borrowed" $1000 from me, as well as a computer, which was never paid back or returned, respectively. He ended up fleeing the state.
Has anyone discovered that a significant other or spouse is unethical after you got involved with them or married them? Were they so good at it that you would never suspect? What did you do? Where do you draw the line at "supporting" someone who's in trouble with the law and cutting bait?
(I'm not talking about things like cheating or having a bad credit record, BTW. I'm talking about serious stuff that they could go to jail for ... and that put you at risk if you stuck around.)
