Okay assuming that person paid for your meal, all you need to say is "thank you"...there is no need to add "wow, that's expensive" That is just tacky!
I guess I'm reading "complain" as "whine". If there is something floating in my water a simple "excuse me, could I get fresh glass, there is something in this" is enough...just a simple request.
I don't think that's tacky. Maybe you (and many others) might think so but not so much to me. Unless I'm told by many people to quit saying that then I probably will stop.
Never had a woman cook for me before. It'd be a major surprise to me if that happened.
