I'm an American, I live in Europe, and I can tell you from firsthand experience that American girls don't like getting hit on by European (mainly, German) men when out at the bar/pubs/clubs.
Which surprised me at first, because I see young German men as attractive, fit, and very nice, and I've always had the preconceived notions that American girls who live/work/study abroad here in Europe are looking for a little Euro manmeat. However, I've found this not to be the case, and in the case where there is a substantial American presence here in Germany (either in the military communities or the US expatriate communities in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, etc), American girls still tend to stick with American guys.
I have dated both, and personally it is the person that matters to me. Their nationality does not matter. I tend to be attracted to the same type of man...so, they will be similar wherever they are from.
As an American woman, I greatly prefer an American boyfriend of my same background and education. With an American boyfriend, he would just understand me better than someone from another country... and I would understand him well also. And that would add up to strong easy bonding and high levels of trust.
I prefer American men because that's all I've ever known. There are too many good choices here (if I were single) to ever have the need to search for an import.
