U.S. Department of Labor - Find It By Topic - Wages - Tips (http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/wages/wagestips.htm - broken link)

NO server will ever go home without AT LEAST minimum wage per hour, even if absolutely ZERO people leave tips. The employer is REQUIRED BY LAW to make up the difference if tips do not meet minimum wages. REQUIRED BY LAW. Not leaving 2 dollars at Dennys isn't going to make a difference to that server, s/he will still receive AT LEAST minimum wage.[/quote]

You are HIGHLY off base.

You've obviously never worked in the food industry. The employer making up the difference to make it minimum wage?????------NEVER HAPPENS!!!

So until you actually KNOW what you are talking about, stop making yourself look stupid!!!
oh wah, here I'll sympathize for your minimum wage and fork out some of my hard earned pay and leave you a generous tip so you are able make ends me. We are all working class and we work hard also and we didn't ask for tips nor should you expect one.

LOL I've never earned minimum wage dear.

If you can't AFFORD to tip, then don't go out to eat. I'm not there to wait on you and deal with your petty shyt for free!!!

I'm truly amazed at how many people online here don't seem to understand the simple courtesies involved in eating out. Honestly - when you eat at a restaurant with a server - you tip them. If the service is good - you tip them well. If it isn't - you can tip them poorly. Do you people also not tip your hairdressers, masseurs, parking attendants, etc.? I guess I'm just glad that everyone that I know understands these things.

I have never tipped a hair dresser

But it's not difficult to cut my hair. Literally a buzz around the noggin' and I'm going home.

Thre rest I've never experienced.

I think it might be different for men - and depending on where you go. I wouldn't dream of not tipping my hairdresser!
