My wife and I are pretty much political opposites. Interestingly enough, we are also both retired political and legislative analysts. There was a time when we would both be testifying before the same legislative committee on the same bill with one of us in support and the other one was in opposition. Regardless, our marriage has lasted 16 years because we know and respect one another's limits when it comes to political discourse.
wouldn't you say a Republican is probably an underdog?
Not when their entire economic agenda and rhetoric is utter contempt and disdain for anyone who's not wealthy (and this is coming from someone who's well off so no jealousy here). I don't think I need to explain further. In any case, this isn't the Politics forum so I'll just leave it at that.
I find political views align very well with world view and values so I just can't see myself being with someone who has the opposite political views.
James Carville and Mary Matilin support and represent opposing political parties yet still manage to stay married to each other. It's about listening to each other's political POV, discussing it and although in disagreement, accepting that there is a difference of opnion. This without being arguementative, and trying to demonize each other for it. I just voted and I have my fingers crossed.
It's hard to date someone if you have really opposite political views. I'm pretty liberal and my ex husband was very conservative and we both were interested in politics. A lot of people are one or the other, but they don't really think about it much or aren't passionate about it. I am passionate about my political views, and so was he. We clashed constantly. I'm pretty sure the guy I've been seeing the past couple weeks is a Republican. We haven't talked about it...I'm a little scared to find out! I wouldn't call opposing political view points a deal breaker assuming they aren't obnoxious about it and don't try to change my beliefs, but it is something I would be concerned about.

Sometimes the don't ask don't tell works hahah
The girl I'm dating right now is Venezuelan, so she obviously hates anything resembling socialism.. seeing as how Chavez destroyed her country.
