Just curious, what do you think of, when you think of true or idealized love? For example, for those who are unmarried, what would your hypothetical perfect partner be like? (Also, for those who are married, what about your partner makes him or her your true or ideal love?) Just curious to know what comes to mind, for most people?
For me in MHO, when I very recently randomly came across the song linked to below, I thought it described it perfectly; I was like "wow, this must be what true love must really feel like"...and now I have the song stuck in my head and can't get it out, go figure lol... (I'm providing the link b/c the words in the song say it much better than any words I could ever write on my own )

I'm not a wordsmith so words can't describe how I know what I feel I know it when I see her walk into a room. The room seems brighter & warmer when she smiles at me or pulls me close to her I have this peace that I can't describe but it comes over me in a rush of emotion that tends to make me dizzy. The way she feels next to me in the morning when she wants to me held before we have to get up & go to work. All warm with her hair & her face against my chest.
For me, it's the way she says "I love you" before we drift off to sleep at night. All drowsy and soft, but so full of meaning. It's also the way her smile can turn a bad day into the best one ever, or how her body fits against mine when we embrace. It's the feeling I get when she texts me in the middle of the day, just to say she misses me. It's knowing that I have married my best friend, supporter, and lover. It's realizing that, even if life hasn't always been kind, there was always someone out there for me.
I think when you're not in a relationship idealizing romance or love can be problematic, since actual flawed people can never live up to the perfection you've built up in your head.

Yes, people are flawed but it's those moments where they don't always live up to those ideas makes us love them all the more.
Being married has taught me that I will learn a little more each day about what "true" love really is. The more I learn, the deeper in love I become with my wife.
If I were to really boil it down, I would say true love is giving without expectation of receiving regardless of your own desires, because of the confidence you have that by being joyfully giving, you know your spouse will be too and at the end of the day, both of you will be far better off, and happier than if you chased your own desires at their expense.
Maybe that is because I find more joy in knowing my wife is happy, than I do trying to please myself merely through selfish desires, and since she has a similar feeling, we both end up having our desires met anyway.
Of course, none of that has much of anything to do with an idealized sort of love.
I think that, when you are not in love, it's better to not imagine what it will be like. Don't get me wrong - daydreaming and such is fine - and I'm a total pushover for romantic comedies. But real life is very different - and if you are looking for something specific - you might never find it. It's better to just be open to people and experiences - and then you'll know it once you find it.
Perfects partners don't exist. You have to be very naive to believe there's such a thing.
Perfect people don't exist - but I think my husband and I perfect for each other, warts and all!
