Another reason men arent in a rush to get married. We can do all the things you listed by ourselves for free. If we are going to give up our freedom, risk getting taken to the cleaners, risk our financial freedom, pay for the wedding ring etc that is the least that you can do.
Remember we can cook and clean ourself without signing the marriage contract. If we still have to do household duties why get married when we can do that ourself and keep our freedom.

Valentine's Day will become obsolete, except for the few couples who aren't divorcing and who don't hate each other. The entire wedding industry will become obsolete. Like I said, I can happily clean, cook, etc for myself and keep my freedom (not getting married). Sell marriage to me? I got to buy a ring, I probably got to help pay for the wedding, risk my financial future, give up my freedom, etc and I can't even get a hot meal and have my house cleaned? Why in the heck should I get married when Im doing my own chores now with only my name on my account?????
Chop wood, use the snow blower (until this past weekend when I had to since he wasn't here), fix the cars (I don't know anything about cars), use any of the saws, build things, etc. All the stuff that he is really good at and I have no clue about. And I'm really klutzy so power tools and me are not a really good combination.
My BF gave me a new driver drill for Christmas. I can't wait to use it.

50 years ago??!! Um...no, they aren't. Sure some couples pay themselves, but most weddings (for first-time brides) fall into the brides-parents-expense category.
As i have expressed in previous posts, i strongly disagree with this behavior in a world where both men and women are working full-time jobs.
I do not support men sitting on the couch drinking a cold beer while their wife cooks, cleans, does the dishes, bathes the kids, and works her ass off taking care of things around the house. Guys need to be a grown-ass man and do 50% of the work cleaning their houses. Why would a man make his wife clean up after him? If the man really hates housecleaning that much, he should hire a cleaning service. If i ever get married (Fear not, ladies of city-data, i'm still single and women are still being mean to me... i know some of you experienced a moment of pure terror at the thought of a woman being married to me) but if i ever DO by some crazy chance get married, my wife and i will each do 50% of the household chores, and then we will BOTH get some time to relax. I'll sit on the couch rubbing her feet while we both enjoy have a glass of wine.
I want to see how often this goes on in the year 2013, and also I want to give you ladies dealing with this crap a chance to vent about it.
This just came up with a cousin of mine but the tables are turned. He runs a small business from his home and does all of the household chores and child rearing. She is highly accomplished in the medical profession and can make about twice the money he can, hence the arrangement. She used to do more chores but continually reduced her contributions until finally declaring that she is the primary income earner, so he should do ALL of the chores.
So he agreed. And that house is immaculate. But he also stopped contributing to the household income. From now on, he told me, all of my money goes for fun for me. Suddenly his wife is reconsidering her position.
Good grief, if she is "highly accomplished in the medical profession," surely they can afford to hire help instead of bickering over chores!
