most people i have know to feel this way do so because they feel their ex is somehow worse then they are having known them intimately enough to understand the "bad" things about them.

it becomes a question of "how can someone with all those unattractive qualities get someones before me?"

He knows. But he wasn't a big part of his life. So he said like others, who cares.

That's too bad. Dad's should be taking the kid out in the boat fishing. Dad's should be helping them join the Scouts...camping, swimming, boating, woodworking, shooting...etc.. Dad's should be tinkering out in the garage and having him join. Take him to his buddies house and to car shows and whatnot. The kid would fit in with the rest of the guys.
