I have gotten cold sores since a child - my dad had them too and so did his dad. I have been married for 19 years and my husband has never gotten one. But also , as another said - I don't go near him with my lips when I have an outbreak or feel one possible coming on. One or 2 of my daughters seem to get them. The shiny (white) cream could be Valtrex (Acyclovir)- that is prescription cream. This cream can be used on oral cold sores and it was also prescribed to me when I had the Shingles virus - it helps the sore(s) go away faster. There are also Acyclovir pills you can take.
It is the mental aspect of coming to terms of having a high likelihood that I will get oral herpes that is bizarre to me.
You really do need to educate yourself about herpes. Do NOT assume that blisters on the mouth is only oral herpes; genital herpes can also appear via blisters on the mouth.

It feels like a japanese kamikaze going to war knowing he's going to have to fly into something.
Listen: If you're going to be making a face everytime she comes in for a kiss, then do the girl a favour and leave her the hell alone. She'll find somebody else, and be just fine.

Go fly your plane into someone elses' ship.
Couldn't agree more.
People that obsess over this kind of relatively unimportant stuff are not ready for serious relationships anyway.
So, I've been slowly getting to know this woman lately, I see her maybe 3-5 times a week and I think I like her and would like to ask her out. The only problem is that she has oral herpes- I can see it on her lips.
I do not have herpes. I'm not sure how to approach this. Has anybody else been in this situation before? Suggestions? Advice? What did you do? Did you end up also getting herpes? How did it affect you mentally? What happened with the situation? Did you guys break up? If so, were you absolutely devastated that you have no girl/guy and also herpes?
And what is this question?
How did it affect me mentally? LMAO!!

It is mentally jarring!! I wrote about having it last week. Talk to your Dr. There is good information out there and things that are relatively easy that help prevent spreading it, but it does nothing to overcome that mental hurdle. That can only be overcome with faith that practicing these measures help. Good luck!
