I am curious if people think it's wrong to lie about your ethnic identity ?I won't mention which race I am, but I will say that many people have extreme negative views about the women in my racial group. For this reason, I lie about my ethnic background.

Do you think this is wrong?

No, or at least, not necessarily.

For instance, if you are Jewish and you lived in Nazi Germany, then No, of course not.

I live in the U.S. I mostly lie for dating related reasons. The women in my racial/ethnic group are classified as the worst women. I am a good woman, so I tend to lie and state that I am not of that ethnic background, because I have noticed that people treat me differently, when they believe I'm not of that group.

I don't have a lot of friends because I just relocated to a new city (for job related reasons). I was primarily referring to my association with some guys. I have noticed that people respect me more, when they don't know I'm of a particular ethnic background.

In your case, I would say that you should make the best decision in regards to this. (Oh, and for the record, I am assuming that you are Black, correct?)

Honestly, though, I don't think that this is something which many people will complain about once they find out about this.

As a side note, I find it interesting that you are apparently able to pass as a different race. Then again, race is (a bit of) a social construct (especially considering interracial marriage and whatnot), so yeah.

I don't know that it is wrong so much as sad. No one should ever feel there is something so negative about themselves that they deny who they are. There was a time when people might have felt they needed to for their own safety, but hopefully we have now passed that point.

No. It's nobody's business what ethnic group you belong to. Including the government.
