I've always live in a flat/apartment, it seems a house is SO high maintenance?
I lived in a house, then an apartment, and now a house again. My house is about 70 years old. I prefer a house, because I like knowing that I can do what I want with it. I like knowing that in 28 years it will all MINE. (I share it with the bank at this point.). LOL I also like getting outside and doing yard work. Having a piece of land is important to me as well, even if it is only 1/4 of an acre. It was important to me to get this house, because I am able to say that I did it on my own.
A house or apartment just depends on a person's personality - and workload as well. There isn't a right or wrong way to live.
I'm babysitting my 1 1/2 year old grandson. Within 10 minutes of his parents leaving, his pants and diaper were off, he was jiggling and bouncing (that must feel good LOL), and Cheerios were dumped on the floor. Good grief. Then he thought it was good fun to run around and around the table to get away from me with a new diaper. Boys!
I've lived in an apartment for as far back as I can remember, so it would feel strange to not be literally surrounded by so many neighbors. Mostly, I have no idea when to do things like cleaning the chimney (does that need to be done?), or how you know if the boiler goes, or if you need a roof or something?

Yeah, that is true, I've lived in apartments pretty much my whole life and you do sort of get used to the sounds of other people around you, sometimes it's actually sort of soothing, when it's not loud of course. I really like when it's summer time and holidays like Memorial or the 4th, you can hear people's gatherings, laughing and sometimes music in the background, IDK... I also like the smell of laundry going, LOL... getting a little too nostalgic over here.
We're talking about moving out of state in a few yrs and trying to find a place in a more rural setting... might be a little harder getting used to than I first thought.
Moving into town, I was nervous about the lights and noise. However, it is a quiet street and the street lights are not obnoxious. It is a really quiet neighborhood.
