That's what I've been working on lately. I feel like I've been doing a much better job at showing interest and carrying a normal, flowing conversation that keeps them entertained. I'm still not anywhere near as good as I should or want to be but I do feel like I'm getting better.
Ultimately, my goal is to be a better communicator and get better at forming relationships not just with women but with everybody. I have noticed that at work, I've developed a thicker skin and exude more confidence at work, even when I'm being "lectured" by supervisors (we all get, it's not really a big deal).
BTW, I noticed that you're from Bloomington, IL. I went to ISU and I graduated just last year.
What exactly are you afraid of? When you imagine yourself talking to women, and getting them into bed, what horrifying scenario rears up in your imagination and makes it seem insurmountable?
Fear can be overcome.
Did you have a problematic childhood? Start there.

If it is communication that is an issue, maybe go to Toastmasters? Check if there is one near you. That said, I feel you. It is awkward for me in the meat markets too. That is why I'm suggesting online dating. It removes the issues of finding someone with common interests in public.

When a guy is 29 y.o. and had to look up the word 'brothel' ...I picture someone who's been institutionalized? or just finally set free?

I can be! I find life to be a lot more fun when I don't take myself too seriously. But as a lady I do know what is charming to me: honesty, humbleness, compliments, humor...don't ever try to be someone you're not, people with people experience catch that immediately. Good luck to you!
Here's some advice: women are people. Realize that and stop acting as if they are an alien life form.
If everyday conversation is still something new to you, you really need to work on developing basic social skills instead of thinking you can somehow become "charming".
Do you have any friends? Think of how you act with them. Odds are, you don't worry about "charming" them.
Eh, I guess if you've seen westerns you know the term, but since they are only in one or two regions of the U.S. I guess I can kind of get that.
