Wow, that's some ignorance alright... The opposite problem does exist, though. You CAN be getting your periods while being pregnant. I'm no sure how it works or why, but I knew a girl in college this happened to. It was way too late for abortion when she realized she was pregnant.

The fertile female body is designed to get pregnant, and a lot of that process involves subterfuge ... even of the person becoming pregnant. I am amazed at the number of people who ASSUME that pregnancy is a certain way. The scary truth: there are a shocking number of pregnancies involving scattered bleeding that looks like periods, the lack of an apparent belly, even pregnancies that happen when a woman is on birth control. It happens to the young and the old(er) woman, and it can happen to nearly anyone.
I have a theory about pregnancy evolving to subvert modern advances.

I know... I've never had such scares as I've always chosen reliable birth control, namely IUDs, most of my life, but a couple of years ago had a freakish episode, too. I had an IUD, but my period was getting late right in the middle of separation... wonderful timing... The scariest part was that should you get pregnant with an IUD, the pregnancy is ectopic and you can die if it's not caught on time. Thankfully, the delay happened to be due only to extreme stress. All I needed was an abortion at that time...

Oooh, interesting! Sounds very sci-fi! Kinda like bugs that become immune to pesticides? Or bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics? Or viruses morphing into stronger strains that... um, nevermind...

The frightening thing is that getting pregnant is one of the largest responsibilities a normal human can take on, and yet it requires no qualifications whatsoever. The really frightening thing is that the poorer and less educated you are, statistically you are more likely to have a greater amount of children. Evolution doesn't necessarily care about advancement, duplication is enough.
In a way this is brilliant, though, because a smart child can be born to dumb parents. I suppose as long as people are reproducing, the smart genes are likely to sneak in every once in a while, saving our population from a fate similar to that portrayed in the movie Idiocracy. :P
