So let's start off the New Year with this question:

What if your inlaws are just like the ones in "Everybody Loves Raymond" -- you know, the kind of inlaws that stop by all the time UNannounced, leave THEIR stuff in your house all the time, and give you unsolicited advice (and then get upset if you don't follow it)?

We'd have "issues", to be sure.

Do tell -- how would you solve it?

They'd be my ex in-laws soon enough if my husband would be like Raymond.

I'm a very loving, but direct person. In no uncertain terms I'd let them know that their advice is always welcome, but I will do what is best for me as I see it. "I love you, I respect you, I trust you, but I'm not you."

Well, I would say "dear in-laws, we have plans today and we're leaving right now, so we can't share time today. BYE-BYE. Ah, by the way, my house is not your storage."

Really, don't let them invade your personal space...!

Another thing- I'd keep my doors locked and train them to knock.

Or, let them interrupt a wild west show in the living room and see if they want to join.

By the way... what's your SO's opinion? They are his/her parents, and he/she would be able to talk to them and solve the problem. IMHO, you can't be uncomfortable at your own home. Home is the sacred place.

If they were like Frank and Marie, then at least my MIL would have an interest in her son instead of not talking to him for the last 4 1/2 years.
