I do believe in allowing children to express themselves thru music, dress and maybe a few things most people think of as odd. As a child of the 60's I'm pretty sure my parents thought some of my music, clothes and behavior were quite strange. However, most of the guys I looked up to were athletes and writers. Typical of a guy back then. Today you have young men emulating ho/b*tch bangin, bling wearin rappers. And young women emulating the likes of Paris Hilton,Lindsey Lohan and some transvestite looking thing called Lady Gaga. If parents dont mind thier sons idolizing men who say its okay to abuse women or dont mind thier daughters idolizing gals who have no problem showing the cameras thier hoohoos while exiting cars, then those parents should not be surprised when thier sons go to prison for abusing women or thier daughters hoohoos end up all over the internet. Freedom of expression is a good thing. But so is the freedom to grab your child by the back of the pants and say OH NO YOU ARENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then, I'll go out wearing nice jeans and a sweater that doesn't show much skin and I've actually had people turn their backs to me to block me out when talking to my friends. Same bars, same town and in some cases, the same people.
Is the 'attention' worth it? To me, no. To many women, it is.
It seems to be more of an issue of targeting your audience. Why would you need to do anything other than be yourself with an already established relationship with the person you are with; it could be a good way to dress when out with a boy friend you are more friendly with.
To start, I don't believe that professional women are generally dressing like tramps. I'm a professional and work with professional women and don't witness this. Perhaps it's regional. It's certainly class oriented.
I think it should not matter how a person dresses, usually. But to the extent marketing is focused the way it is, it must be considered a market based factor and metric. Shouldn't a girl friend be able to be comfortable around us, with or without her clothes on? I am of the opinion that a girl friend should be able to be that comfortable around a boy friend.
Wow, this thread is wild. The OP's rant though just reminded me of this, namely in how it relates to hookup culture and the growing cold war of female sexuality as women compete with one another to join the defacto harems of the handful of alphas...
I am living in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area and I don't know if this is something going on every where but it seems like women between the ages of 14 and 27 are being brainwashed to be dress/act slutty. I am strongly emphasising the 14-19 demographic tho.
Yes, the fashion marketed to young women can be pretty skanky, but that is a fact we all know. I am talking about women working at hooters who wear it like a badge, or women who spend excessive amount of time and money getting hair extensions and spray on tans, women who get all of their confidence from what men think of them, women who disfigure their bodies with cosmetic surgery.
Its mind boggling.
I guess I used to dress somewhat hoochie, but I never acted that way.
I started realising all of this when I was an exotic dancer for a year (because I had to do it), not because I wanted to "feel sexy" or some bullcrap. I had to pay for some medical bills, buy a new car, and go back to college.
This was around the time I started dressing more conservative. I was being hit on and stared at all night at work and then during the day in my free time. Its straight up disrespect that some women take as a compliment. I was always being stared at like some toy (both at work and not at work). I realised that some people enjoy this. Some people enjoy the creepy leers.
Its one thing for someone to compliment you, but its another thing to yell "Thank-you daddy" across a crowded street.
Anyways, as soon as I paid for everything I needed to I went back to bartending.
It seems like a lot of young girls are just wannabe strippers. Its really sad.
In the 50s, society was turning young women into stepford wives. Now todays society is turning the young women into Stepford Sluts.
Why are so many women basing their self-worth off of what some horny guys think of them?
Its just really sad to me.
I am 21 so maybe I am just ahead of my time
So you were an actual stripper, who is looking down on others who you feel dress like wannabe strippers? And yet you admit that dressed like a hootchie too, before you went conservative, because you spent a lot of time with your clothes.... off?
I have no problems with someone being a stripper.
But I do have a problem with someone who says.... "I was just like that, but I changed... why hasn't everyone else? They're so sad."

Apparently, simply having a relationship means more to women than it does to men; and, they are willing to "pay" for it. I think women should learn new teamwork skills with their girl friends, and simply get us to clamor for a relationship.

Being female and wearing whats comfortable, should not be automatically classified a ****! That's a narrow minded approach I thought went out with the dark ages.
Although I do agree, that young girls should not be allowed to wear such suggestive articles of clothing and I lay the blame on the media.
Do nudists or naturists have more or less of a problem with suggestive clothing?
