Uh,I think it is not taken as seriously as it used to be since it's so easy to get a divorce now a days. Hopefully if I am ever married in the future it only one time and it's with the right person.

Are you parents going thru a divorce by any chance?
Well I just through watching Entertainment Tonight where they were talking about Larry King who is now with his seventh wife who has reportedly been cheating. And it just made me think about marriage in general.

In the old days, when it was hard to get a divorce, it was much more socially acceptable for people to simply live apart and for men to cheat, than it is today. So who takes marriage more seriously -- someone who files for divorce, or someone who just keeps up the bare appearance of being married?
Apart from that, everyone plans on being married only one time and forever. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way, and it's not necessarily because people "don't take marriage seriously".
Insofar as you asked a very vague question, I would say marriage is predominantly about loyalty. Loyalty is different from fidelity, although they are related. Being loyal means you are always your husband's ally and you never undermine him in public (barring extremes, of course). This is not always easy to do, but that's what being a couple is all about.
