my question is.....if you believe and have absolute faith in god, then what good is prayer if you are truly aligned with "thy will, not mine", as any good and faithful servant is taught to embrace?
what could you possibly pray for, except to ask for guidance to align your own personal will with that of god's?
my family is full of religious folk who pray for their business to succeed, their children to win, their own dreams to come true. i have asked them on occasion....but what if it's not god's will that your request is granted? their response is always some carefully worded religious rhetoric, but to me it seems that they are really asking for god's will to be in alignment with their own, not the other way around. can't point it out without offending them though.
...why does one need insurance, go to a doctor, or buy a gun to protect oneself?
Prayer is talking to your father; he just likes to hear what their thinking; or just hear from you. Its not always about healing or insurance or protection;
When I pray I thank God for giving me another day here on earth bestowing all the beauty he has created. I pray for the person an ambulance is going to be to there by their side giving them comfort during their troubled time. I pray for others not basically for myselfe except for strength and wisdom and never, never for things I want. I have never asked for wealth, a higher level of employment, those things I have to accomplish on my own.
I believe God is with me always watching over me and those I love and care about.
Which is not answered positively, as often as not, even if you don't ask for mountains to be uprooted. Thus it is not as described in the gospels. Therefore it is a human activity and there is no reason to suppose that any Christian divinity is paying any attention.
The short answer: God is not our servant, who is obligated to heed our every command.
One out of billions offered daily, one per millennium would be a start
You are more likely to be struck by lightening, twice than to win the power ball.
You are more likely to win the power ball is a slam dunk vs. having a prayer answered.
Unless you count the really important and selfish one's that would occur anyway, like finding a parking space near the mall entrance, cause your prayers to loose weight have gone unanswered, and hauling your girth to Cini-Bun is hard work.

You must have the perfect family, with no sickness, no injuries, no death, just total bliss.

Because god supports a strong economy and our Second Amendment rights. Don't you know anything about politics?
