Yes you do. You just don't like the way they approach the bible because it's not as easy to refute as the inerrantist, literalist view you and I were raised with.

If you were to run into a Samoan would you say, "Your flood story doesn't hold up to my scrutiny, so explain that! Gotcha!!"
Ok, so they are just stories. What good are they then?
If you're looking for stories with moral lessons, I'd say there are far better (and less barbaric) stories to be found in modern literature than in the bible. Why read stories about wrathful deities who slaughter millions of humans with floods and fires?
Reading "The Three Little Pigs" to children is probably ok. Reading "The Day God Killed All non-Christians in a Lake of Fire and then Tortured Them Forever" (1) to children is probably less admirable.

To kids? I have no idea. I never did that. Ask someone who thought that was a good idea.
I knew the Navajo flood myth before I knew the Biblical flood myth so I knew there was more than one story. When I read the Biblical flood myth.... I was appalled. It was a God I did not know. (I was about six and it was at a friend's house. I stopped reading "The Golden Book of Bible Stories" after that.)
