Well...we have on this board, a good example of "nothing": Atheism.
It is the Concept of Nuthin'...based on Nuthin'...and is thus a Nuthin' Concept.
Thanx for the set-up Snowball...I do appreciate it!
The Nothingness...must be a hot topic...lots going on on other Forums.
Ok, I say this a lot...if you want to know about a dentist, ask if they have gone to him...
otherwise all you get are opinions, hearsay, guessing, speculations, debates and such.
The Void, the Nothingness is not a concept...It is 'there', here, always was , always will be...
It is timeless, forever...existing as we are existing here...in the manifested creation...it
is the Unmanifest.
That says absolutely nothing to the logical brain! Sorry.
All there is in the 'Nothingness' is You...Pure Awareness of 'You'...as the Only One..
I repeat ...no One else ...No One!!!
And that is why I understand this creation!!! Pretty darn boring.
for me to say this, is of greater merit than your opinion that
you shall cease to exist, because nothingness is not a place
you may go to, even by dying.
Read it again slowly, breathe deeply, open your mind...
it will come to you.
Sorry. Still nothing but speculation about what I wot not.

This effort, plus the self -praise, most especially.

Funny then how my consciousness wasn't around before I was born.
Saying that the particular configuration of biochemical activity that is "me" will cease to sustain "my" consciousness is not the same as saying I will become nothingness, anymore than burning a house down causes it to "become nothing". In both cases, they simply change from a particular organized form to a disorganized form. I can assure you every molecule and every bit of energy that is me will be conserved ... but there is zero evidence that it will be sustain my continued consciousness and a great deal of evidence that it won't.
Nothingness, I am finding is an important aspect of Buddhist teachings. and not the beginners "Oh this is Buddha, this is your brain on Buddha" Topics either, but a deeper abstract concept.
But as Billy Mays once said, "Wait ! THERE IS MORE!"
Look at the fascination physicists have with dark matter. I have a junior physicist in the house, who will break video games and pizza dinners for a good physics lecture. Dark Matter is a topic that he hopes will give him the Nobel Prize some day if someone does not get it first.
I see a correlation with the search for Dark Matter and the Search for nothingness. Because where the sciences and the religions merge, both concepts have shown to overlap. * What if "Nothingness" is really "Everything-ness" and we just have no ability in our human minds to experience or understand it? What if it is beyond our current limits to understand in scientific terms.? The Buddhists have been tackling this question for centuries.
So I now have a fundamentalist to my right saying I will burn in hell and a new ager on my left saying I actually volunteered for this gig. And they both think the other is wrong, nevermind me.
Assertions to the right of me, assertions to the left of me, but no evidence being presented for any of it.
