nothing means nothing to spiritual implications. We are here now so that is that. Some feel the connections to the biosphere and mis read it as omni present and powerful. Because to them it is.

Not only is there no "nothing", but there is no materially reductive consciousness.

Last night I watched a few presentations and discussions by Dr. Sergio Canavero
on this subject, and his concepts for human life extension.

I would say we do not have a complete falsifiable hypothesis about consciousness at present and so we await further information rather than entertain speculation. It is almost certainly a complex emergent phenomenon and it is the nature and prerequisites of that emergence that we don't presently understand.

Well now THERE is a guy who is probably an accurate source of information on the topic. A guy who wants to give a paralyzed patient a new body that will also be paralyzed -- a procedure for which there is no point unless we knew how to reconnect a patient's OWN spinal cord much less connect to one in a different body.

I have a feeling we'll be hearing more about him, and his patient,
and lots of things like this in the future. Remember, all groundbreaking
scientists were considered to be quacks or dreamers in their day.

Perhaps. Forgive me if I think it will be a multidisciplinary effort ... or if I doubt he has adequate peer review. I do not think what he's attempting can be done by a lone visionary, even if he's on the right track.

I actually have no problem in principle with this despite the visceral reaction against disembodied / re-bodied heads. And if his patient considers the risks worth it ... and I think he'd have to be willing to say he has no quality of life and would, if the surgery were unavailable or unsuccessful, be desiring rational suicide ... and he wants to give it a go, then he probably doesn't have much to lose. He would trade one immobile body for another, but if his disease is progressive and fatal, perhaps it will extend his life. But I think the odds of success are close to nil if all that the good doctor has personally practiced on so far are mice.

entertaining speculation is the nature of science. It is that speculation that leads to testing.
