I've heard it many times...generally spoken by the type of non-believer that I really don't want to be associated with.
So, are you trying to form your own type of non believer cult to associate with? Are other non believers not allowed to differ in their views from your proscribed doctrine?
FYI, although you seem to have missed this, I clearly stated in response to the OP that this was my opinion. If it differs from yours, so what?
Predos, that is one of the farthest stretches I have seen on here. Trying to equate someone eating a cracker to cannibalism is out there.

Which was a symbol of becoming one with Christ, assimilating His essence as ours.
Living as He lived, with no distinction of greater or less than.
Eat of His flesh, that we may be one.
Drink of His blood, that we may take on His spirit.

The Jews understood that what you take into you, is a symbol of your character and beliefs. Each animal had a quality or a detriment associated with them. Their laws regarding food were very exact and defined, and symbolic of the teachings of God. From milk for babes, to the strong meat of men.
Trying to turn it into something it is not, is exactly what the Jews tried to do.

I've got to side with Predos here. Not all Christian denominations believe in transubstantiation but a lot do. The Eucharist is the magic ritual that literally transforms the cracker and wine into the body and blood of the Christ. Christ was human, so the belief is that it is transformed into actual human body and blood. Ergo, those that believe in the literal transubstantiation are partaking in ritual cannibalism.
Some Christian denominations believe it is only symbolic and stays what it is. There are a lot of differing Christian beliefs out there.

Of course, since I do believe I must be living my life with "blinders" on. Very original. You nailed it perfectly, what it "represents", not what it actually is. I think your line is blurred between symbolic and literal.
Say when I go out and meet a client, and before I leave the office, someone says to me, make sure you represent the company in the best way possible. Am I representing the character, the name, the integrity of the company, or am I actually representing the building that the company is in, representing the structure itself? If I think like you do, I would go to that meeting thinking I am a damn building instead of doing my best to represent the character, integrity etc.
It is good to be literal, but not all the time. And I do not walk around with blinders on, far from it.
