I'm not going to look for a witchdoctor..she has connections with her church group.

Sitting and having a cup of tea with a friend is always a good thing. That is the view. Nothing more, nothing less. Two old friends sipping a refreshing beverage. You do not even need to speak.

You might bring over some soft cookies,or a piece of cake, too.

Sitting with a friend having tea and cake is a good thing. No words necessary. No point of view needed.

Friends, cake, tea. Enjoy the moment.

Thanks and I agree but our friend ship has grown miles apart in the years she took on the fundie world she's now in. She and I have nothing in common but 50 yrs past history. But I do want her to keep her sight and that's what I've tried to tell her what I have. But she's her boss.

The change is dramatic, traumatic and she is now dealing with a cataract surgery gone wrong and I'm trying to help her with ideas on what to do. She owns a piece of property in our our town some millions but won't do anything with it although she could use some money and especially now with these eye(s) and needs to get out of HMO and to some other specialists.

Anyway, yesterday I was talking to her and she says there are demons in her apt and do I know a witchdoctor and I said no, but said I do use a pendulum and she thinks that is witchcraft. Ugh ugh....

So today, I see a cross painted on her front door with like a dripping paint off the cross. What is she doing? Is this like an Exorcism?

I gave her a note and said if she does not want any of my help, get some sage and burn it to get rid of what she feels are evil spirits.

Should I be fearing what she's doing? Had to get this off my chest.
Drugs do terrible things to a mind...

How often do you speak with her?

From what little I read in this thread, she overreacted, as you guessed, due to stress. I have many friends like this, as well (not as dramatic with the blood on the door, but people who were once "normal" who became super religious to the point of cultish). You can tell it's not healthy - the extremism, the fear - it's just over-the-top. Healthy people don't act like that.

I don't know what you can do for her - does she have relatives? It sounds like she needs an intervention of some kind - at least so she can sell her property and get her money out to take care of herself.

She sounds a little too crazy to hang out with on the regular. It might start to drive you crazy, as well.

Oh, and btw, fwiw, there's an acupuncture treatment that is a traditional exorcism treatment, but it's used these days for post-traumatic stress (very effective), among other things. But it's not widely known; it's not taught in most acupuncture schools, because China's style of acupuncture dominates the market, and Mao banned the traditional practices. But if you're in CA, it shouldn't be too hard to find a practitioner. Instructors from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and their students, teach it.
What kind of acupuncture treatment are you referring to (what is it called)? And what is a "traditional exorcism treatment?" I have never heard any acupuncturist talk about an exorcism treatment . . .

The "Cultural Revolution" in China banned everything beautiful and traditional. I studied Feng Shui, and I would talk to Chinese residents who had immigrated from China and they didn't even know what it was!

Thanks and your comments make a lot of sense...yes, very cultish like the Benny Hanns, Olsteen etc group.

There is no way I can relate to this group, nor want to. As I said a history many yrs ago and her apt door faces mine about 7' away. There are some weeks I don't see her but once. And often it's civil but this last trip with the demons....yikes. I helped her get this apt and often wonder where my head was at the time, but she wasn't like this then.

"banned everything beautiful and traditional"

For me to believe that something is "banned" I'd have to see the law and the consequences outlined against it.

Feng Shui was "not supported" because the poor could not afford it.

Quote:
Mao Tse-tung denounced feng shui for its propensity for fraud. During the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s and '70s, it was derided as a legacy of China's feudal society. Practitioners often were persecuted [vague, since quack doctors are persecuted too]. To this day, feng shui masters cannot get business licenses or legally advertise their services in China. People here understand that the practice falls in the category of superstitious activity, which is illegal.

~Even in China, Feng Shui Disharmony - latimes
A "business license" entails that there are extra-benefits such as government support (tax-breaks and bailouts during bad times, etc). Advertising works similarly although there are less standards/regulations for it here. It is assumed that people should understand that every advertisement is a biased self-promotion. Some people seem to think that someone will only talk loud if they are saying the truth.

You can be an interior decorator and believe in "wind/spirit and water" or "Taoism" all you want. But the business would be interior decoration (an ART).

You might as well bring back [have the government support] the 4 humors, bloodletting, flat-earth, or homeopathy... because of how traditional and "beautiful" they are.

Superstitions are ugly and sickly. And you can test them with double-blind impartial tests.
